Curitiba Offshore

About Curitiba OffshoreThe Productive Development Policy (PDP) the Brazilian government issued on May 12, 2008 to stimulate the Brazilian industries will have an impact on the technology segment through special benefits that shall significantly increase the Brazilian software exports, with a forecasted revenue reaching US$ 3.5 billion in 2010. The expected result is that by 2011 Brazil will have a prominent position in the area, alongside India and China. Adding to this, surveys indicate that Latin America will be the region on the planet that will show the greatest increase in investments on IT.

There is consensus among IT businessmen that the most important trend in the software world market is software services, especially due to an exponential growth of the offshore/outsourcing segments. This is a tendency led by the major IT and telecom multinational companies and therefore, creating conditions so that the local software development companies can enter this market becomes of utmost importance.

On the other hand, when searching for suitable partners to complement product and solution sourcing or establishing an offshore partner location, client organizations need to scrutinize a comprehensive set of indicators, including geographical and cultural proximity, language, technical skills and labor costs, as well as political, economic and social risks.

In Paraná there are 5 software clusters, in 5 different regions, covering the entire state, with many technology companies, ranging from IT services to GRC, BI, CRM, ERP & MERP and Help Desk world class solutions, which are provided to several industry segments, such as finance, automotive, oil & gas, agribusiness and manufacturing.

Curitiba’s Software Cluster is located at the State of Paraná’s eastern region. It includes Paraná’s capital, Curitiba, and the cities of Colombo, Pinhais, São José dos Pinhais and Araucária. CURITIBA OFFSHORE CENTER is the international effort carried out by the best companies that belong to this Cluster and which are focusing on exports and international expansion. This entity is a plural association, autonomous and independent, keeping no political governmental or religious bonds, and can establish agreements or partnerships with companies or persons, whether public, private, national or foreign. Most companies in Curitiba’s Cluster currently provide services to or have solutions in several multinationals in the state, so the broad purpose with the CURITIBA OFFSHORE action is to encourage the offshore services of Curitiba’s Cluster by creating opportunities for the companies that don’t work abroad yet, while strengthening those that already have a share in the international market stimulating the export software market, uniting individual initiatives and disseminating successful experiences.

More specifically, purposes are four-fold:

  1. Promote Paraná’s software export market by attracting and deploying offshore operations in our region;
  2. Promote Paraná’s software export market, identifying opportunities in foreign markets, especially in the European Union;
  3. Contribute for the training and adjustment of Paraná’s software companies, and their products, keeping in view the demands of foreign markets, especially the European Union;
  4. Contribute for the adoption of corporate practices that may increase the quality and competitive standards of Paraná’s software companies by means of internationally accepted certification and qualification processes.

This includes political, legal, taxation, commercial and non-commercial issues, among others.

The expected result is to have a Cluster that agglutinates internationalization initiatives of companies from Paraná and to place Curitiba as a center in the world IT scenario, also especially in the European Union, making of Paraná’s capital a reference in the international software market, developing an export culture, not only for the clusters that operate in Curitiba, but also for those in Londrina, Ponta Grossa, Maringá and Pato Branco/Dois Vizinhos.
